Summary:  Middle School Introduction to French is a course meant to familiarize students with the basics of
the French language structure, common French vocabulary and phrases, and Francophone culture
and Orthodox saints from the Francophone world.

This course is meant to introduce students to the French language in terms of syntax, structure, and practical phrases and vocabulary. In this course, we will also explore French culture and customs, as well as study saints who influenced the French-speaking world and Orthodox influence on French culture in general. This course is meant to familiarize students with the French language and culture, as well as help them learn more about the Orthodox Faith. Being bilingual is a highly-marketable skill, so studying another language can help students attain more career opportunities, and to help others.

By the end of this course, students will:
-Recognize common French phrases and be able to ask/answer basic questions. This includes being able to read and write short sentences, as well as engaging in short, basic exchanges. Students’ progress will be monitored with formative speaking, reading, and writing assignments throughout each unit, as well as with summative assessments at the end of each unit.
-Be able to identify elements of Francophone culture and compare/contrast them to their own culture.
-Be able to identify at least 3 Orthodox saints who influenced the Francophone world and what their contributions accomplished.
