Summary: This is an introduction to major concepts in science, including history of science, philosophy of science, science and technology, matter, chemical change, physical change, solutions, solutes, solvents, chemical bonding, chemical reactions, technology in chemistry, nutritional chemistry, minerals and crystals, chemical and physical weathering, life, technology in biology, microscopes, chemistry of life, cells, viruses, bacteria, archaea, protists, and fungi.
This is a new 6th grade science course which is focused largely on chemistry but also includes some foundational concepts in biology, physics, and geology.
Textbook/Required materials: There is no required text for this course. The instructor will provide all readings.
Students will be required to purchase a “pocket” microscope, generally available for $13-$20. I recommend this microscope.
